Here's something I tell all my clients:

Your lovely new website is not a 'Build It And They Will Come' situation.

Look, I LOVE talking about conversion-focused websites (obviously), but I wanna get real about what websites CAN do and CAN'T do for a hot minute.

Websites do not equal lead generation. That's marketing.

Think of your website as a storefront bakery on a charming street that has the best ooey-gooey luscious cinnamon rolls in town.

You could have the perfect storefront: amazing branding, beautiful display cases, that warm doughy cinnamon smell wafting through the air, Instagram-worthy packaging.

But if nobody knows you exist? Those gorgeous rolls are just sitting there getting cold & stale. :(

And your website works the same way.

Your website is your bakery: ready to welcome people, show off your buns services, and make it easy for them to work with you.

But getting people to actually COME TO YOUR SHOP & walk through your digital door is where the marketing comes in.

Marketing doesn't have to be complicated, and it's not just making Reels for Instagram (thank goodness). Here are some 'marketing' things you can do to actually get people to discover your own version of ooey-gooey cinnamon rolls:

• Email past clients to check in (not to sell, just to see how they're doing)
• Ask happy clients "who else do you know who might need this?"
• Show up to a coffee shop networking group every month
• Partner with someone who serves your clients differently (like a photographer partnering with a wedding planner)
• Host "lunch & learns" for your referral partners
• Write guest articles for industry blogs your clients actually read
• Join Facebook groups where your ideal clients vent about their problems
• Send handwritten thank you notes (yes, actual 🐌 mail)
• Sponsor local events your ideal clients attend
• Start a simple weekly email sharing helpful tips
• Offer to speak at industry conferences (even small local ones)
• Do coffee dates with one new potential collaborator per month

Pick one thing (or more!) from that list - something you don't completely hate - and do it consistently.

Your website will be there, ready to convert visitors when they show up. But first: You've got to let people know about those cinnamon rolls.
