Does Google Know You Exist?

Hello! Long time no chat.

If you’re new here, hi. I'm Janessa from JPK Design Co.

This particular email is super focused on Squarespace. But I also write about business, DIY entrepreneurship, marketing, and other related biz shenanigans. I used to send emails out every week, and lately it’s been every once every few months. I’m vibe-emailing these days, I guess you could say. (Not interested? Unsubscribe here, no hard feelings!)

First of all, things in this world are capital W Weird right now, and getting weirder every day. So in case you’re feeling that too, just wanted to acknowledge it and commiserate.

So as you may or may not know, I’ve been mostly redirecting custom website work inquires to two fabulous designers (shoutout to Christina and Kat - email me and I'll get ya in touch with them!) for the past 6 months while I’ve been busy in my day job of marketing ops.

But! There are a few clients I’m still selectively taking on.

And one recent client inspired me to share the tip I'm including just below.

Does Google know you exist?

If you have a Squarespace site, have you connected it to Google Search Console yet?

Here’s how to check if you're connected to Google, and what to do if not:

More times than I count, I’ve seen clients, business owners and creators who have set up their own website — or even hired a designer years ago — who HAVE websites, but they never actually got connected to Google.

Which sucks. Because that’s how Google knows you exist and sends people to your website. And that’s how you can see what people are searching for when they actually land on your website. So let’s make sure you’re connected!

(And yep, even if these days of AI, GEO, and whatever acronym people are using these days, Google still very much needs to know your website exists.)

So if you’re not sure, here’s how to check and take care of it in just a few minutes:

How to Connect Squarespace Google Console

Once you’re logged into your Squarespace account, follow these steps:

1. From the Home panel on the left-hand side, click Analytics
2. Click Search Keywords
3. Click Connect in the pop-up
4. Sign in using your Google account
5. Click Allow to accept the permissions

It can take up to 72 hours before you see data in your Squarespace Analytics under Search Keywords, so don’t fret if it takes a bit.

Before you start:

• Your site must be published (not in trial mode)
• Remove any site-wide passwords
• If you just connected a custom domain, wait 48 hours first
