Overwhelmed by Squarespace's Free Templates? This email is for you!

Hello! Long time no chat.

If you’re new here, hi. I'm Janessa from JPK Design Co.

This particular email is focused on free Squarespace templates and a free new thing I built, and a cool deal expiring soon that maybe I wrote way too much about. But I also write about business, DIY entrepreneurship, marketing, and other related biz shenanigans. I used to send emails out every week, and now it’s every once every few months, it appears. I’m vibe-emailing these days, I guess you could say. (Not interested? Can't remember when/why you subscribed? Unsubscribe here, no hard feelings!)

TLDR: I built a thing, it's free, and I link to it below. (Also linked here if you want a cheeky lil' sneak peek). This thing IS for you if you are DIYing your own Squarespace site and need help with the template side of things. You will NOT find much use for it if you already have a website. (But you are welcome to check it out for funsies if you like!)

Background/Context: As you may or may not know, I’ve been mostly redirecting full custom builds and design work inquires to two other Squarespace designers (email me and I'll get ya in touch with them) for the past almost year while I’ve been busy in my day job of marketing ops.

But! I am still very active in the Squarespace space, and have been working with select clients on redesigns, SEO, marketing, Power Hours (specific targeted support) and general Squarespace support.

And I've also been working hard on a fun thing, which is the reason of the season(al email):

The Template Quiz:

This isn't a regular template quiz. It's a cool template quiz.

Over my years in web design, I've heard from and talked with so many biz owners who are DIYing their own Squarespace site.

Budget is part of it, sure; premium templates and designers both cost money. But a lot of the time it comes down to where you want to put their money as a new business, and a website isn't always the highest priority.

So you end up in this annoying spot: a free Squarespace template gets your site live without hiring a designer or building from scratch, or investing in a premium template. And it's a good option! Totally fine! But! There are HUNDREDS of them built into Squarespace, and picking the right one ends up being its own time-consuming project.

Then you Google it or ask Claude, and you get listicles about Bedford and other supremely outdated templates and talking about the 7.0 Squarespace platform (when it mattered a whole lot more which template to start with).

Squarespace's own template finder page is clunky to navigate, and doesn't tell you things like which pages are include on which template. (Plus their categories are weird, but that's a whole other thing...)

Then I built a quiz around all of it.

The quiz has three quick multiple choice questions:

• What type of business do you have?
• What pages you need?
• What's the main action you want your visitors to take?

Skip any of them, or answer as detailed as you want, it's just there to get you the best format and best starting point.

Once you answer those questions, you get your best match template, plus a handful more that fit, and then everything else to browse if you want it: screenshots, demo links, my reviews, my favorite picks for multi-use sites, and a surprise button if you'd rather just have funsies with it.

The quiz is totally free, not gated (meaning you don't have to enter an email to get access - or to get access to results). Feel free to share.

Okee I'm terrible at discernment and figuring out what to include and not to include in emails so this is very long and did you really all this info about Teachery? I dunno! But it's here, and this email is very obviously written by human Janessa and not AI-assisted in any way shape or form.

Anyhoodle, TLDR (too late?) if you use/would use a course platform/sell digital products/have a membership/want something with a community and don't want to pay an arm and a leg every single month/year for a bloated platform, Teachery is the deal for you and it is a REALLY GOOD DEAL and it will still be a good deal after the price goes up but for right now it's the best deal ever and I'd encourage you to check it out! TLDR, take two:
​Teachery is a course platform (plus other stuff) that has a lifetime deal that costs $550 one time with no extra fees or charges for anything. That is a good deal. But! there is more cool stuff being added, and that price goes up August 15 to $750 (still a good deal, but more dollars) and then it goes up again September 15 to $950 (still a good deal IMO especially compared to the Podias of the world, but still lots more dollars).
